Curriculum

Clapp Children's Center provides a safe, healthy and educational environment for children of preschool age to learn and grow in. We invite you and your child to visit our center and experience how fun learning really can be!

Learning together with peers, our exciting and developmentally challenging curriculum offers your child:

  • A theme based curriculum prepared by degreed teachers
  • Kindergarten readiness skills to enhance cognitive development
  • Learning centers which enhance social development
  • Spacious outdoor environments to enhance gross motor development
  • Computer education to familiarize children with technology and enhance skills

Forever Young

During their time at Clapp Children's Center, your child will have small and large group activity opportunities with the residents of Breckenridge Village. A preplanned and developmentally appropriate activity will be implemented during the visits involving interaction between the children and the residents. The activities planned include sharing story time, creating crafts, and baking small snacks together.

These small and large group activities have been created to offer new learning adventures for the children outside of their classroom. With this opportunity, we hope to provide variety to our preschool curriculum and help the children adjust to changes within their learning environment. Interacting with residents will also help the children learn how to respect older adults as they learn how much fun it can be to have friends of all ages.

A calendar of intergenerational activities will be posted monthly on the Parent Board in the cubby room.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the intergenerational activities, please contact the director at (440) 954-8360.

Thank you for helping to make our preschool program an exciting and adventurous one for the children!

Parent Participation

The child care program attempts to provide a cohesive setting where parents and staff work together to provide a consistent and caring environment for the children. You as a parent/caregiver are welcome anytime during operating hours. We encourage employees to stop down during break or lunch.

Newsletters and calendars will be sent home monthly highlighting themes and events which are happening. Please check your child's file daily for these items.

Children age 2 years and under will bring home a daily log which documents the following: toileting/diapering, formula/food consumed, nap times, and any other issues or special moments.

Children age 24-36 months will receive a weekly potty chart which documents times and results of when they sat on the potty. Potty training plans will be individualized and discussed with parents so that continuity at home and at school is happening.

For children ages 3-5 years, you will receive an evaluation on your child's development twice per year, in January and May. Parent-Teacher conferences will be held annually in the second week of January. The purpose of this conference is to share the growth and development we have observed in your child during the year. You are welcome to schedule a conference with your child's teacher and/or the director at anytime. Please contact the director to schedule an additional conference.

For all ages, if you have a concern or issue during the year, please do not hesitate to mention it to the staff or director so it can be discussed. Your child is our focus and good communication is the key to our providing consistent, quality care.

The director is on-site each day and specific office hours are posted on the parent bulletin board at each site. On days when the director is out of the office, you may use the cell phone number provided on the office hours posting or direct questions and concerns to the assistant director.
